Neglecting to learn about Allah, and knowing about him in the correct manner that he should be known, leads a person to many calamities. Amongst them is becoming is being lazy in carrying out the commands of Allah and disobeying him.
Once a person knows the reward he can get by standing in front of Allah and praying to him, he will never become lazy or delay in carrying out good acts. But if a person doesn’t know the majesty and greatness of Allah, he will be neglectful and heedless. This can only be remedied by studying the names and attributes of Allah as they should be known and understood, which is the topic of Tawheed and Aqeedah.
Allah (Azza wa Jal) says:
It is only those who have knowledge among His slaves that fear Allah. – Quran [35:28]
Allah (Azza wa Jal) also says:
They conceal [their evil intentions and deeds] from the people, but they cannot conceal [them] from Allah, and He is with them [in His knowledge] – Quan [41:108]
The reality is that the human being should be more concerned about his transgressions against Allah and should be worried if he ever misses the salaat or does not have enough khushoo’ in the salaat. He shouldn’t care about what other people think. A person who doesn’t know Allah, will act in a foul, rude and obnoxious way when he is on his own, or with close friends, but when amongst the general public, he will be on his best behaviour. But Allah sees him wherever he is.
