Aqida Tahawiyya – 5

He is Eternal, without a beginning, Everlasting, without an end.

The daleel for this is the words of Allah:

He is the First and the Last, the Ascendant and the Intimate, and He is, of all things, Knowing. [Al-Hadid 57:3]

Also the saying of the prophet that came in the hadith reported by Muslim:

O Allah, You are the First, there is nothing before You. You are the Last, and there is nothing after You.

The words of the shaykh ‘qadiimun bilabtidaa’ daa imun bilantihaa’ explain the meanings of the divine names the First and the Last. Qadiimun explains Al-Awal and daaimun explains Al-Aakhir.

Qadiim is not one of Allah’s beautiful names, so it is better to use Al-Awal.
